Deputy PM says 30 more self-driving cars to get certified by Aug
MOSCOW, Jul 12 (PRIME) -- Russia will certify 30 more self-driving cars until the end of July under a schedule set and agreed by Internet company Yandex and the Industry and Trade Ministry, Deputy Prime Minister Maxim Akimov told reporters on Friday.
“We’ve certified five out of 100 (self-driving cars) we need so far,” Akimov said.
“Our problem is the problem of everything new – that it does not fit the old regulation. We should move to a new regime, which is quite simple: the experimenter should declare that no changes are introduced into the vehicle design. The declaration should be approved by the government, and cars should drive.”
Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev signed a ruling in October 2018 to hold an experiment with self-driving cars from December 1 the same year. Yandex takes part in the initiative.
